Q: I have a child and a new dog. Where can I find a good dog trainer? A: It's best to interview a few dog trainers in your local area, and get recommendations from people who seem have a well-behaved dog and who seem like nice people. If your trainer also helps a local pet rescue organization, then both the trainer and the rescue organization may qualify to receive Animal Wow's free educational public service program that is endorsed by the American Humane Association. The free program is "Dog Party: making a home for your new best friend." To learn more about Animal Wow's humane education programs, click here. Q: What are age-appropriate tasks for my child to help with pet care? A: For kids who are under eight years old, Animal Wow recommends that they be helpers, rather than be primary caretakers for pets. As Stately and Remix say, "We're here to help!" Young children can help filling the water bowl, supervised play, and keeping their own toys and shoes away from a dog who likes to chew. Parents should decide whether a child can help with feeding, brushing, cleaning, and training. If parents believe their kids are ready for primary caretakers at any age, then we recommend setting up a chart to keep track of and reward caretakers. Q: When will the "Cats Wow Cats" DVD be available? A: "Cats Wow Cats" and other Animal Wow DVDs will be available in 2007. Also, look for the Animal Wow music CD, new educational materials, and some very special surprises that we know you and your best friend will love.
