Hey, guys! This week I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite books. Go down to your local library to check some of them out. I’d let you borrow mine, but the pages are all dog-eared, hehe. When you bend down the top corner of a page in a book to save your spot, it’s called “dog-earing” the page, because it looks like a dog’s ear! But only do this if the book belongs to you. It’s good to respect the books you borrow by using a bookmark to save your place.

Hank the Cowdog

Hank the Cowdog has been having adventures for over 25 years in the series by John R. Erickson. Hank is the head of security at a cattle ranch in the Texas panhandle. Along with his pal, the easily frightened Drover, he solves mysteries, protects the ranch from coyotes, and makes a lot of friends on the way. This clip will show you the colorful covers and titles of the first 21 Hank the Cowdog books. There are 55 so far! Find out more about Hank here: www.hankthecowdog.com

Bunnicula

The Bunnicula series of books by Deborah and James Howe are about a vampire rabbit that sucks the juice out of vegetables! Yikes! Bunnicula is owned by the Monroe family and the stories are told from the perspective of their dog, Harold. Harold, Bunnicula, and Chester the family cat have adventures through seven books.

The Giggler Treatment

The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle is the first in a series starring Rover the dog. It’s a favorite of Animal Wow’s Leader of the Pack, Larry Kay! But you don’t have to take our word for it! Just ask Amy…

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a series of books written by Norman Bridwell. The first Clifford book came out in 1963 and Norman is still writing them today! In his books, Clifford is adopted as a puppy by Emily. The little puppy surprises everyone in the family by growing to be 25 feet tall! The books were even turned into a cartoon series. Here’s the opening!

Kipper the Dog

Kipper the Dog is another good book series for young readers, written by Mick Inkpen. Kipper is a 6 year old orange beagle who loves playing in the park and going on adventures with his friends. Kipper has 34 books so far and also had a cartoon show in England. In this episode, Kipper finds a baby duck and takes care of him.

Spot the Dog

Spot the Dog is the adorable main character in the series of books by Eric Hill. These books are great for beginning readers! Spot also had his own cartoon in England. Here’s an episode where Spot stays overnight at a friend’s house!

The Wizard of Oz

Of course, I can’t forget possibly the most famous dog in books for children. Toto, from the Wizard of Oz series by L Frank Baum, joins his owner, Dorothy Gale, on an adventure in the far-off land known as Oz. Did you know that there are actually 14 books in the Wizard of Oz series? Here is the famous song ‘Over the Rainbow’ from the Wizard of Oz movie.
