I found something truly great when I was sniffing the web this week – a contest for the most magnificent adopted pet.
We are now into our third week of adjusting to life with our new dog, River…a couple of things are causing me real concern. I debated writing about them, but since they’re the sort of things that get many dogs sent to shelters, I think it’s worth putting them out in the open.

It has been another eventful week with our new dog, River. For her it’s involved learning her new name, crate training, potty training, cat training, walking, hiking, starting school, and taking her first trip to the doggie salon. For us it’s involved all of those things, plus buying a garbage can with a lid.
I decided to sniff the web to see if it’s possible for cats and dogs to get along, and if so, how to help make that happen. Here is what I discovered.

On Saturday, May 21, our family grew a little larger – and furrier, and floppier, and slobber-ier. After years of waiting, plotting and planning, we finally have a new dog.
The Zoom Room is a place for pooches to learn everything from basic obedience and canine good citizenship to agility and therapy dog training.

We sniffed around to find camps around the country featuring pets and animals, and we came up with some great ideas.
We have big news in our home, and I’m so excited about it, I’m starting a whole new column to share the adventure with you week by week.

Floods and tornadoes have swept through several states, and now there are nearly 7000 displaced pets that need help. Fortunately, two great organization are spearheading the effort to help them.
