After my blog last week about horses, Remix has been hounding me about doing a blog featuring cats! So this week’s blog is all about the different types of cats out there. Many of you are probably familiar with the more well-known dog breeds, but how many cat breeds can you name? If you’re stumped, that’s okay! Just keep reading!
A cat is part of a “breed” when it shares a particular feature or features common to only that type of cat. Just like basset hounds are known for having big floppy ears and short legs, a Siamese cat can be recognized by its triangular face and thin body. It might look like there are a lot of different breeds of dogs and only a few different breeds of cats, but that’s because most cats are mixed with many breeds, just like how I’m a mix of many dog breeds! There are really very few purebred cats in the world but nearly 100 different breeds.

Adopt a Shelter Cat

If you’re thinking of getting a cat, consider adopting! There are millions of cats in shelters across the country needing homes and loving families!

Volunteering with Shelter Cats

Or if you just want to help out, volunteer at your local cat shelter! Being a part of finding homes for cats is very rewarding and you might just find your own new best friend there!

Maine Coon Cat

The Maine Coon cat is one of North America’s oldest breeds. It was bred in Maine in the 1800s and is now the State Cat! Since it is known for its gentle personality and intelligence, it has become one of the most popular cats in the world.

Siamese Cat

The Siamese is one of the most easily recognized breeds of Oriental cats. Like I said before, you can tell Siamese cats apart from others by the shape of its face and long, skinny body. Also, a lot like Remix, Siamese cats like to talk!

Bengal Cat

Check out this cat! It’s called a Bengal cat and it has beautiful spots and stripes on its fur. Some of them look like leopards or jaguars but are a lot friendlier, I’ll bet!

Ragdoll Cat

These cats are called Ragdolls. They’re so cute! They’re also known for being relaxed, gentle and easy to handle. Basically, the exact opposite of Remix, hehe. If you think a Ragdoll might be right for you, then find out more about this relatively new breed of cat here!
As you can see, there are all kinds of different cats to choose from when looking for a new family friend. They are all special in their own way. of course. Feel free to look at other breeds and find one right for you. And thanks to Remix for suggesting this week’s topic!
If you have a suggestion for a topic that you would like to see on one of my future blogs, email me at animalwow.com/contact. I’d love to hear your ideas! See you next week, everyone! Woof!
